INFLAMMATORY BOWEL DISEASE
(IBD)

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a group of chronic inflammatory conditions affecting the gastrointestinal tract, primarily consisting of Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. In Western medicine, IBD is believed to result from a complex interplay of genetic, environmental, and immune factors.

Common IBD symptoms include: Abdominal pain or cramping, Diarrhea, sometimes with blood or mucus, Urgency to use the bathroom, Weight loss, Fatigue, Fever, Mouth sores, Anemia.

In Chinese medicine, IBD is viewed as a disharmony in the body's energy, or "Qi," and the balance of Yin and Yang. The main organs involved are the liver, spleen, stomach, and large intestine.

Chinese medicine's holistic approach to IBD aims to treat the underlying imbalances contributing to symptoms rather than focusing solely on symptom relief. By addressing the root causes and promoting overall health and well-being, Chinese medicine can provide valuable support for individuals with IBD.
